Park, Evanston, Illinois
Hadean Petrov walked around the park, wearing jeans, sandals and hair hanging down his back in a ponytail. If one even noticed him at all, they’d observe he carried a philosophy text under his arm and he’d settled on a park bench facing the street.
He opened the text, pencil in hand and looked like he was preparing an assignment. Like he belonged. He wasn’t somebody anyone from a college campus town would especially notice.
In truth, Hadean was no stranger to his surroundings. Just under two weeks ago, he’d parked his car under the shadows of the trees waiting for the old woman to finish her evening walk and come home from the park. She hadn’t even made it to the middle of the street before he’d started his engine and excelled from 0 to 50 in the blink of an eye. She’d been dead before she’d hit the pavement.
Once again he waited. Hadean had done his homework on Elena Dkany. She was, his informers told him, an academic type, slim and willowy, a weak girl who wouldn’t provide any trouble. He planned for a routine burglary gone bad.
Too bad. Poor girl. Death comes to all. He laughed, watched female college students and killed time.
Book Blurb:
Inheriting a castle, Elena Dkany travels to Romania, a land dipped in Myths, Folklore, and as legend has it, the Walking Dead.
From the onset of her arrival, hearing a local proverb: “Do not speak badly of the Devil, because you cannot know to whom you will belong,” she soon understands the importance of adhering to this warning in this mysterious land.
